Peter Röhner Wednesday February 18th, 2015 at 06:15 PM Einfach wunderbar! Brendan G Carroll Thursday February 19th, 2015 at 10:58 AMReply I was absolutely delighted to learn of this previously unknown recording, particularly as it gives hope that other broadcast discs by Schmidt may have survived, undiscovered as yet, and may appear one day! I was also most interested in Paul Breisach’s involvement. He was a close friend of many composers, including Erich Wolfgang Korngold and I enjoyed a lively correspondence with his sister Susie many years ago. Will this record be released commercially? I do hope so. Thank you for sharing this important information, Joe Salerno Thursday February 19th, 2015 at 03:26 PMReply I am curious what the recording is made of. I believe it is too early to be a lacquer, but the sound is certainly quite good for the time to be shellac or uncoated aluminum. Could we have a picture of the entire disc in addition to the label? Jens-Uwe Thursday February 19th, 2015 at 04:25 PMReply Joe Salerno, this is a 12″ inch 78 rpm shellack pressing with the pickup starting from the center to outside! Fred London Thursday February 19th, 2015 at 05:21 PMReply Thank you for this post and for keeping Schmidt’s memory alive. James Irsay Friday February 20th, 2015 at 07:28 AMReply Beautiful! Thank you so much for this post. Schmidt sings his famous high D here, but in a pianissimo falsetto. On his Parlophone recording from 1936, every example I have heard has the performance in the key of F sharp… thus, a high C sharp. This is a mystery. Did Schmidt actually record the piece in F sharp, or are engineers responsible for the half-step difference? Once again, wonderful post of a Schmidt favorite! Donald Wright Friday February 20th, 2015 at 09:15 AMReply I’ve heard three different podcasts about Schmidt in the marvelous series from BR-Klassik, “Was heute geschah.” Such a beautiful and mellifluous voice! Wonderful that another recording has come to light. Mel Siegel Monday February 23rd, 2015 at 08:58 PM Thank you for sharing this treasure with us! We are very grateful! michael tesoriero Tuesday February 24th, 2015 at 06:32 AM What a wonderful find– a new recording of Schmidt the trill is first rate and the voice has never sounded fresher K. Fränkel Monday February 8th, 2016 at 08:07 PM Eine unglaublich schöne Stimme; leider ist Joseph Schmidt viel zu früh verstorben. Bedauerlicherweise gibt es nicht viele Tonaufnahmen von ihm. linked here Monday August 28th, 2017 at 06:09 PM Greetings! Very useful advice within this article! So it proves in David McVicar’s production – the first at Glyndebourne – which is updated to the early-19th century of Wagner’s childhood. At the centre of a true ensemble cast is Gerald Finley, a ‘gleamingly sung … hgf Thursday February 6th, 2020 at 02:03 PMReply Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your articles?
