Born in Cologne in 1925
Acting school in Erfurt. Actor, later head dramatic director at the Cottbus Theater.
Theater director in Schwerin and Erfurt. Guest director at theaters such as the Leipzig Playhouse, Weimar National Theater, and Metropoltheater in Berlin.
Executive director of the radio productions at the Leipzig Radio from 1964 to 1990.
German Democratic Republic Arts Prize in 1974 and Radio Play Critics Directing Prize in 1983.
Continuation of his work in radio, theater, and television after the reunification of Germany.
Roles in numerous DEFA films (e.g., Ernst Thälmann – Führer seiner Klasse, 1955) and in television productions such as the television series Das unsichtbare Visier (1973–79).
A gifted speaker with substantial contributions in dubbed roles such as the voice of Basil Rathbone in the Sherlock Holmes series. Regular stage productions at the Dresden State Operetta since 1978 (e.g., Evita in 1987 and Gigi in 1995).
